“I have a strong bond with them, so I felt responsible and their safety was my main concern.”

- Hind, Wema Foundation’s founder

Fatima House is a residential institution devoted to the care of orphans located in Jumbi, Zanzibar, in the United Republic of Tanzania

Our duties

Sheltering Orphans

Through a fundraiser Fatima House came into being; a welcoming home that aims to provide a family-like environment where the children can grow up with a sense of belonging.

Currently 45 children are safe under the supervision of highly qualified staff who are on site full time.

Guidance & Education

Our ambitions are not limited to providing food and shelter. We also want to give children who lack parental guidance the opportunity for a better education and full access to physical and mental healthcare. This is reflected in the creation of confident individuals who can utilize their skills and talents, along with the psychological and social support to allow them to reach their full potential and shape their own future by themselves.

Empowering Women

As we at Wema Foundation believe in long-term, sustainable change, our efforts have always been directed toward an optimal and holistic approach; to help not just the orphans but also the underprivileged women of Zanzibar by providing secure jobs at Fatima House, allowing them to earn their livelihood with pride. That initiative made Fatima House a proudly female-run institution, and so accomplished two goals in one.
